ACDH Conference

Introduction to the project:
I was asked by the renowned, charitable organisation ADCH, to film a two-day annual conference, which was set up to thank sponsors and promote the company's services. The ultimate point of this project was to capture and compile footage from the event into a promotional style video. This is something that I have experience in, from working on previous projects.

Planning Process:
I used the knowledge and skills gained from working on other promotional material, looking at what worked well and what didn't during the process of filming and editing. I had previously filmed a promotional video for a milliner, which featured footage from specific events, as well as a sit down interview with my client. Again the aim was to create a promotional video to increase the appeal and sell the service that the client provides.

Although the content varied to the project I'd been working on for ADCH, the layout was relatively similar. Therefore, I found it beneficial to revisit and review this previous project, in order to better my work and overall standard of professionalism.

I wanted to improve the quality of interview and vox pops, therefore, made sure that I had access to equipment that would allow me to do this well. Which entailed choosing sound equipment that would not only produce professional quality audio, but would also be practical to use, taking into consideration the busy environment that I will be in.

Process and Evaluation:
The day prior to the commencement of the conference, I met with the organisers, to run over the schedule for the following few days and what they expected me to capture and produce.  I was provided with a written brief, which I used to highlight points throughout the day that I was not required to film, so that I could organize my equipment in terms of practicality, like charging batteries and clearing up memory space.

At the end of each filming day, I would collate the footage into folders according to what type of seminar or event I had captured. This was so that I could keep the editing process efficient, without having to sift through vast amounts of video files. I was also sure to backup what I had captured each day, so that I did not lose any of the film.

Whilst discussing the style of the video with the organisers, I had understood that they wanted a promotional style video that would ultimately encourage viewers to become members of ADCH, as well as showing some recognition to all the charitable work that they do. To achieve this, I decided that it would be beneficial to use upbeat background music to enhance the feel good ambience. This of course, posed the potential problem of using music without correct licensing and permission. To avoid this, I was sure to make use of audio from registered, free online platforms.

Following the conference, I had regular contact with the organisers, to discuss the progress of the film itself. I sent over a rough edit and am yet waiting to hear back from them, to see whether there are any changes that need to be made.
