ES'Givien
I was given
the opportunity to work for an independent fashion company "Es'Givien" based in Italy. Having spoken with the business owners, I was briefed on what to expect
during my week there. I would be placed in their head office in Verona, working
alongside the designers themselves. I had been requested to take photos of
their upcoming summer collection which they could use across their social media
platforms and website.
Whilst there, I was introduced to the other staff members and shown around the location in which I would be working in. I was also shown the items of clothing that I would be photographing and was given the independence to spend time planning how and where I would conduct the shoots.
I decided that I would utilise outdoor space surrounding the office, as it had many naturalistic features that would compliment the summer collection, by enhancing the very summery, bright and bold textures, materials and colours. I feel that the shoots were productive and allowed me to work on my skills, such as planning and framing my images. I was also able to excercise my photo editing skills, using the software Photoshop and Lightroom. This gave me an opportunity to critically analyse my work and select what I considered was the best quality and most professional looking images to present to my employers.
In addition to this, I was given the task of digitally recreating the designers hand-drawn sketches. This is not a task that I had carried out before and I was not entirely familiar with all Photoshop functions to achieve this. Although I initially considered this a challenging task, I tried and succeeded in completing it and was pleased that I had not only discovered and developed new skills, but the employers were very happy with the results also and asked me to complete many of these digital sketches.
I have since had regular contact with the members of the company who have expressed their appreciation for my work and have asked if I would be interested in working for them again in the future.
From this experience I was not only able to overcome various challenges whilst being in unfamiliar surroundings, I also discovered that I have a passion for design and fashion photography. Which is now something that I would like to develop my skills in further. It has also presented me with other opportunities with the company which, again, I would like to pursue.
